Is it worth to go diving in Phuket in May

“I’m coming to Phuket in May, is the diving good at this time of year?”

A commonly asked question, is there good diving in Phuket in May.  May is the beginning of the wet or green season, this does not mean it rains all the time.

The Similan Islands close for 6 months at the end of April and there is no longer any diving on the west coast of Phuket but there are many dives sites still available.

Racha Yai, the best dive sites on Racha Yai are on the east coast which is protected from the low season winds and waves, there are 4 interconnected bays on the east coast with 4 interesting wrecks in bays 1 and 2.  Racha Noi is a bit further out but has 3 or 4 dives sites, such as Banana Bay and Banana Rock on the east coast.

King Cruiser, Shark Point and Koh Doc Mai is one of the most popular of all the day trips offering fantastic diving all year round except on a few days of exceptionally rough weather.  This offers 3 very different dives. King Cruiser is a large ferry, Koh Doc Mai is a wall dive and Shark Point is a series of beautiful underwater pinnacles.

Koh Phi Phi is also accessible throughout the low season with the less commonly dived east coast being popular on the rougher days.
