Scuba Diving Phuket in November

October is usually the month when the weather pattern on Phuket is changing. The winds coming from the west and creating waves throughout the low season on the west coast of Phuket are starting to turn and finally come from the opposite direction. This is for Phuket always the sign that the high season is approaching.

November is the time of the year when the scuba divers are starting to come to Phuket for diving. In November the non-divers are booking beginner programs and more and more people show an interest in learning or trying to scuba dive and book dive courses.

Scuba Diving Phuket November

The photo from Kamala Beach above was taken on the 25th of October 2013 – 2 days after the winds have turned. Flat sea and excellent diving conditions within a couple of days – that’s how quick it’s going. This year Merlin Divers started going out along the west coast of Phuket and conducting the popular half day scuba diving trip with 2 dives on the 20th of October 2013.

Scuba diving in November has one nice thing in store – best visibility. Best visibility certainly in the Similan islands but also dive sites closer to Phuket like the Phi Phi islands and the Racha islands offer the best visibility of the year in the first 2 months of the high season – hence November and December. After the monsoon season usually the water is a bit cooler than the rest of the year. We are not talking about a huge temperature difference only about 2-3 degrees Celsius. But that is enough to have less plankton in the water and therefore clearer water.

Good thing about diving Phuket in November as well is that the boats are not full. November is still the beginning of the high season and the islands and hotels are not all full of tourists yet. That makes the dive boats and the whole day trip scuba diving just a bit nicer. Often its a nice crowd but not to the extend that you feel the boats are at their limits concerning capacity.
