Successful Reef Cleanup – Koh Weo

We had a great day cleaning up Koh Weo with over 10 bags of garbage lifted from the reef. Mostly drifted fishing nets, some paper and bottles. The reef is recovering, is in good shape and there is lots of life, including sightings of a pack of barracuda, giant puffer fish, giant tuna, cuttlefish and “the usual suspects” of all the critters making this divesite so special.

We were glad to see the giant titan triggerfish in large numbers, but it certainly is taxing to avoid their hot temper and desire to chase off any intruder from their turf, which can often be quite large. One trigger simply did not want us moving a net close to his “lair”, so we will save it for next round of our monthly clean-ups.

Thailand diving feels so much better when you can contribute to the conservation of this amazing underwater world!
